Culminating a Multi-Year Collaboration, Alpha Celebrates the Grand Opening of Sphere in Las Vegas

Selected to design and integrate the IP-based control room for Sphere, Alpha celebrates the grand opening of a performance venue unlike any in the world.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minnesota, Sept. 29, 2023 – ALPHA, a leading technology integrator that creates exceptional and captivating experiences, joins the entire music and entertainment world in celebrating the opening of Sphere, whose IP-based control facility ALPHA designed and integrated over a several-year period.

The exterior of Sphere captured the world’s attention the moment its 580,000 sq ft LED “exosphere” was illuminated. When U2 performs at Sphere’s inaugural event on September 29, the world will discover an equally astounding interior.

Features include a 160,000 sq ft LED “media plane” (as large as four football fields) that wraps over and behind the audience. Behind the display, 168,000 speakers deliver incredible sound through beamforming and wave field synthesis technologies. Audiences of up to 20,000 people also experience 4D atmospheric effects including steam, scent, and wind.

“Sphere is a ‘world’s first’ facility, and this project provided our team with an unprecedented opportunity to exercise our talents,” says Jeff Volk, Executive Vice President, Strategic Accounts, Sports & Live Events at ALPHA. “The sheer scale of it made this our biggest undertaking yet.” Built at a cost of $2 billion+, Sphere is the most ambitious entertainment venue in Las Vegas history, beating out the $1.9 billion Allegiant Stadium – which ALPHA also played a significant role in the integration of the control room.
